Why “scientific collectibles” are not a gimmick (when done rigorously)

DeSci has two persistent problems:

• credit assignment for early work,

• and funding for non-traditional contributors.

Scientific collectibles can be useful when they:

• link to real artifacts (preprints, datasets, code),

• preserve provenance,

• and avoid paywall capture.

The objective is not speculation. It is durable attribution.

Positioning relative to Astrochain

• Astrochain targets astronomy-specific data flows.

• ScieNFT targets general research assets and publishing.

In combination:

• preprints and datasets get a public anchor,

• contributors get a durable “receipt,”

• and community review becomes easier to coordinate.

Responsible framing

Tokenized research assets can attract hype. Strong norms are required:

• clear disclaimers,

• reproducibility expectations,

• and separation between scientific validity and market price.
